Plumbers in Whangaparāoa

Stanmore Bay to Army Bay.

On the Whangaparāoa Peninsula, from Stanmore Bay and Manly to Gulf Harbour and Army Bay, Watercare supplies the water and runs the wastewater network, with its Army Bay treatment plant at the eastern end. Auckland Council looks after public stormwater. Send us the job and we will match it with an authorised Whangaparāoa plumber, drainlayer or gasfitter who specialises in that work.

Peninsula facts

No spare wastewater room

Watercare's June 2026 map shades the peninsula as an area with no wastewater capacity right now, until the Army Bay plant upgrade scheduled for 2031. It plans a new Hobbs Bay pump station and pipeline to cut wet weather overflows around Gulf Harbour.

New mains on Whangaparaoa Road

Watercare is renewing ageing watermains in stages along Whangaparaoa Road in Stanmore Bay, from near Vipond Road towards Doyly Drive, to reduce leaks and unplanned outages.

Rain tanks can top up from town

Watercare first offered Whangaparāoa homes on rain tanks a town to tank connection in 2020. It tops a tank up at about 2 to 8 litres a minute.

Gas varies by bay

A fixed gas heater was a main heater in 13.2% of Gulf Harbour homes and 10.3% in Army Bay at the 2023 Census, against 5.3% in Stanmore Bay and 9.5% nationally.

Topping up a tank from the town supply

To qualify for town to tank, Watercare says the property must be on the wastewater network, close to a public water main, and have rain tanks holding at least 20,000 litres. Watercare fits a low-flow meter and a testable backflow device; you engage a plumber for the pipework on your side of the meter.

A backflow device at the boundary is the owner's to maintain and have tested every year. If you rely on the tank alone, see water pumps and tanks and backflow prevention.

The coast and your drains

The Hibiscus and Bays emergency plan says coastal erosion and climate change have raised the risk of inundation and flooding, and that recent events exposed weak spots such as the Manly beachfront. Keep gully traps raised and grated and outside drains clear, so rainwater stays out of the sewer the plant has to treat.

Watercare owns the meter and its street-side pipes; your pipework starts at the meter's outlet. Leaks on the street side go to Watercare on (09) 442 2222, option 1.

Nearby: Silverdale, Ōrewa and the Hibiscus Coast. Jobs: drainlayers, gasfitting and leak detection.

What we would do

On the peninsula, settle the wastewater question before you design anything new: a sleepout bathroom or second home may have to wait for Army Bay. If you are on rain tanks and tired of waiting for tanker deliveries in summer, ask Watercare whether you qualify for town to tank, then get a plumber to quote your side of it. For leaks, drains and gas work, we match you with an authorised Whangaparāoa specialist.

Questions people ask

Watercare is digging up Whangaparaoa Road. Will our water go off?

Watercare said no planned shutdowns were expected during the investigation phase, that meters serving some properties may be assessed, and that no work happens on private property without notice first.

Does a town to tank connection need a plumber?

Yes, for your side. Watercare installs the meter and backflow device, and you engage a plumber to connect it to your tank.

Tell us the problem. We'll find the specialist.
