How PlumbMatch works

One job, one tradie.

You tell us what has gone wrong. Tradies who work your area and do that kind of job can see it, minus your phone number and email. Whoever takes it first gets those, rings you and gives you a quote. Going ahead is your call.

What happens after you press send

  1. Tell us the job

Pick the closest match: hot water cylinder, blocked drain, leak, gas or something else. Add your postcode, first name and mobile. A short note about the problem helps the tradie turn up with the right gear.

  2. We check it is real

We check your mobile number works. Automated tools read your note and estimate how big the job is.

  3. Local specialists see it

Tradies who cover your area and specialise in your kind of work are shown the job with your first name and suburb. Your number and email stay hidden from them.

  4. One tradie takes it

The first to accept receives your first name, mobile, email and note. Nobody else gets those. If no local tradie accepts within 48 hours, tradies elsewhere in your region may see the job.

  5. They ring you

The tradie talks it through, comes to look if needed and quotes. You deal with them directly and decide for yourself.

Who sets the price

The tradie who takes your job sets their own price, and PlumbMatch has no say in it.

Because your contact details go to a single tradie, you get one phone call rather than a string of them. We don't sell your details on.

What we check before a tradie sees any job

  • A current PGDB licence for each named person who will do the work, and for their supervisor, looked up on the public register.
  • The jobs they specialise in, so they only see work they actually do.
  • Public liability insurance on file and an active NZBN.
  • Their Google reviews, read by a real person.

What PlumbMatch is not

We are a referral service, not a plumbing firm. Nobody from PlumbMatch comes to your place, sets a price or does any plumbing, gasfitting or drainlaying.

Your quote, contract and any warranty sit between you and the tradie. The Consumer Guarantees Act says their work must be done with reasonable care and skill, and you can't sign those rights away.

If something goes wrong

Raise it with the tradie first, in writing. If that doesn't sort it out, complaints and disputes sets out your rights and where to take it. Worries about a licence or unsafe work can also go to the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (PGDB).

How we check tradies explains each check above in more detail.

Where your details are kept

PlumbMatch NZ is run from Australia, which is where your details are held. Some of the services we use are in the United States. The privacy policy explains what that means for you.

Questions people ask

Do you sell my details?

No. Tradies covering your area see the job, your first name and your suburb. Your phone number and email reach only the tradie who takes the job.

Can I pick the tradie?

Not ahead of time. The job is offered to the tradies who fit, and the first to accept rings you. If their quote doesn't suit, you can say no.

What if nobody takes my job?

After 48 hours, tradies elsewhere in your region may see it as well.

Which tradie do I need: plumber, gasfitter or drainlayer?

You don't have to know. Pick the closest job on the form and it goes to tradies who do that work. If you're curious, plumber, gasfitter or drainlayer explains the difference.

Tell us the problem. We'll find the specialist.

We match your job with an authorised local tradie who does this kind of job, PGDB licence checked.
