How your job finds the right tradie
The kind of job
When tradies join, they tell us which jobs they want. A leaking cylinder is shown to hot water specialists, a blocked gully trap to drainlayers, a new gas hob to gasfitters.
Your area
Tradies who take work in your area see the job first. Nobody local takes it within 48 hours? Then tradies elsewhere in your region may see it.
The right trade on the licence
Plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying are licensed separately. A plumbing licence on its own doesn't cover gasfitting or drainlaying.
First to accept
Each tradie who fits sees the job, your first name and suburb, never your number or email. Whoever accepts first gets those and rings you.
Licences belong to people, not businesses
Under the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Act 2006, authorisation sits with individuals. A business is only as authorised as the people it sends to your job.
Most of those people work under supervision. Only certifying plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers work without a supervisor and certify work. Everyone else has a named certifying supervisor in the same trade, who doesn't have to be on site.
That is why our check covers each named person and their supervisor. How we check tradies sets out every step.
Before a tradie sees any job from us
- Each named person who will do the work holds a current PGDB licence for that trade, and so does their supervisor.
- We have a record of the jobs they take on and the areas they cover.
- Public liability insurance is on file, along with the business's NZBN or company number.
- Someone has read the business's Google reviews.
Who they are
Independent plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying businesses that have signed up with PlumbMatch and cleared the checks above. We are signing up tradies all over New Zealand.
The tradie who takes your job tells you their business name when they ring. Before work starts, you can look up each person who'll be on site: checking a PGDB licence shows how.
Your details and the price
The tradie sets their own price. Only the tradie who takes your job gets your contact details, and they aren't sold on.
